Case Study – Tizard Centre: University of Kent

Media2u were approached to produce two short films for the Tizard Centre at the University of Kent. These films were to help share the two years of academic research that went into a project about relationships for people with learning difficulties. Dr Michelle McCarthy was the head of the project. We asked her her about her experiences of working with us.

What were the aims of your project?

The aims of the research project were to explore with people with learning disabilities what kinds of support they wanted and needed when it came to relationships. And to do the same with family carers and professionals. We had a particular interest in the specialist dating agencies as model of support.

Why did the research project require videos?

We wanted to have an accessible way of communicating with people with learning disabilities about the research and our findings and video is an ideal way to do this. Also videos provide material that professionals can use in their educational work with people with learning disabilities and staff training sessions.

Why choose Media2u to create the video productions for the project?

We did consider other companies (as the University requires us to do this), but went with Media2U because we had worked with them before on a previous research project and knew them to be very professional, reliable and good value for money.

What was your experience of working with Media2u over the 3 months of production?

Excellent. Nothing is too much trouble for Marcus. His attention to detail is very good, he is completely reliable, always quick to respond to questions. He has very high standards and this makes everyone else rise to the occasion.

What would you advise people to look for in a production company?

I would look at examples of their previous work. Pose some tricky questions and see how willing they are to be flexible and meet your needs.

Are you pleased with the finished productions?
